How do we know what is God like?

Updated: Oct 2, 2020

Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person Heb 1:3

God is like Jesus, if you have any other answer that does not fit with that, then you must change your mind. The Apostle Paul when he wrote to the church at Colossae said that Jesus is the image of the invisible God. So if you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.

The Gospels give us a biography, they paint a picture of Jesus. He was forthright in His speech, He was compassionate with those who were hurting. He was truthful and yet kind. He was gentle but demonstrated incredible power over nature. He was remarkably wise but he spoke about everyday things. He condemned sin but He loved sinners. An enigma to some, always surprising. He left the most enduring impression on the people that He met. He is the most attractive and compelling person who has ever lived. He lived to die. He lived to die for you. He loves you with an everlasting love. He made you, He knows you, He wants you. This is your God and He invites you into a relationship with Him. At the cross Jesus paid the price in full for sin. In your place He suffered so that the relationship you were made for with God that has been broken by your sin and rebellion, could be restored. Redeemed is the word the bible used to describe how Jesus has reconciled us to Himself. So why not take another look at the Gospel accounts and as you look at Jesus remind yourself, this is what God is like.
